Where are my manners, it’s been so long since we’ve reviewed

Upcoming events

Let’s see if we can plan something fun!

It’s the middle of April, so let’s look at the end of May

Of course we all know about Memorial Day. The day we all plan our trips to the beach, pool or golf course. Let’s just hope we don’t have snow this year! But what other dates of note are in May? And how can one incorporate a brand strategy?

May 22nd is National Maritime Day

Marking the date in 1819 that the American hybrid sailing/steam ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean, making it the first steamship to make that journey. Given that so much of our summer fun happens on or around the water, it seems a no-brainier that a marina, fishing tournament or boat dealer might want to celebrate this day. Use floating key chains or lures to promote your business.

Check out www.marad.dot.gov/education/national-maritime-day/ for more info on National Maritime Day.

National Tap Dance Day is May 25th

Fred Astaire was once declared the greatest tap-dancer in the world (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Astaire), and would probably love a day devoted to this art-form. Created by congress in 1989, this date was chosen to honor another giant in the field: Bill Bojangles Robinson.

Dance studios, theaters and schools might wish to hold events or contests around this important date. And what contest is complete without an award for your own Fred, Ginger or Bill ?

Finally, and this is no joke, National EMS Week

Why a joke? Well, the president who declared the third full week of May (20th – 26th, 2018) as National Emergency Medical Services Week, was known (perhaps unfairly) for being a bit accident prone. Thank you Gerald Ford for honoring our brave medical professionals who are often the first on the scene, whatever the hour!

Utilize an emergency kit (available small to large) to promote your brand. Or pull out the old ambulance stress toys. Don’t forget about teaching children with helpful coloring books. And while we’re talking about kids, a plush toy has helped many an EMT in some unfortunate situations.

Don’t forget, CPSIA compliance is very important for children's toys!
