As do many of the folk here at A-Z Office Resource, your A-Z Swagman puts some miles on his car. This means eventually certain parts are going to wear out – well yesterday was the time for new tires. Now, I’ll admit, I’ve got a preference for tire stores – I’ve had good experiences in the past with my local Discount Tire store and will most likely continue to use them. Of course, this time was the first time I recall seeing a promotional product at the checkout.
In addition to a bin of pens, this store had a bin of tire gauges available. While a simple and obvious choice, I just want to delve into some of the potential thinking behind this promotional product choice. The tire gauge is a very common tool that every driver should have with them. Even with computers taking over so many functions of our car, it’s a good idea to double check those we can still understand and have easy access.
Now, in addition to removing the old tires, discarding them in a proper method (hopefully recycling), installing, and inflating the new tires, this tire store has given your A-Z Swagman a life of tire maintenance plan. Rotation, rebalance, tire flat repair, inspection and air check are all covered, which is an expense on the part of Discount Tire. Well, proper tire care by the driver will extend the life of the tires and reduce claims for these services. So by giving me a tire gauge, they’re not only reminding me of where I got the tires, they’re encouraging me to take care of these tires.
Other businesses can learn from this model. Does your business offer refreshing cold beverages for consumption at home? A branded bottle opener or can insulator might be welcome. How about a shop offering . . . well, just about anything!? Bags do not have to be the item that is discarded once the product is brought home. Give them a bag that will be repurposed and will display your brand with pride!
