Stumbling upon promo, entry number one!
Did you know that Promo Products Work! Week is May 13 through 17? Each year since becoming your A-Z Swagman, I've been looking for ways to encourage the responsible use of promotional products and this year I'm so excited about this new idea that I cannot wait any longer! This is the premier entry of what I'm calling Stumbling Upon Promotional Products in the World (or just Stumbling Upon Promo - we'll see what takes).
These blog entries will focus on one promotional product your A-Z Swagman has found out in the world, be it received at an event or making a second life in a thrift shop! I will be making some educated guesses as to the uses of these products and presenting some current options for folk to consider for their own brand!
So without further ado, the premier entry:
Stumbling Upon Promotional Products in the World #1
- Found: Thrift Shop in Atlanta
- Item: Poker set
- Promoted Brand: Pirates of the Caribbean, Online
As you can see, this is a well-presented, good condition case with a single-color logo of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Online - a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) launched in 2007 based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Was this poker kit part of the launch? Probably. It would appeal to folk who like all sorts of games and encourage them to participate or spread the word about the Pirates game. In your Swagman's humble opinion (IYSHO?), maybe missing is a call for action in the part of a web address.
Inside the padded aluminum case are two decks of cards, 100 chips, five dice and a dealer chip (for Texas Hold-em, I believe? Poker is not your A-Z Swagman's game!) What's cool is that everything is intact and even still shrink-wrapped.
One conclusion your Swagman can state with high confidence: the recipient of this promotional product was not a Poker player. Does that make it less effective? Perhaps, but then again, perhaps this recipient displayed it in the office and people were inspired to try out the game.
What's really cool is that this product is still very much available.
